Hiking Stewart Falls Utah

Stewart Falls is one of our favorite hikes near Sundance Mountain Resort (no affiliation).  Just search Instagram for #stewartfalls and you’ll find over 10,000 stunning posts this iconic waterfall just above Mountain Cabins Utah, on the Alpine Loop road by Aspen Grove.

This 3.5-mile round trip hike is considered moderate and beautiful from the first step to the last.  At least one secret trail will take you there and back, but if we showed you where that is… Well, let’s just say that if you stay with Mountain Cabins Utah, you ask about insider locals information once you’re here;)

Stewart Falls itself towers more than feet above you in two tiers.  The second tier can be hiked to for unique photos and moments to be remembered for a lifetime.

The Stewart Falls Trail can be enjoyed year round including by snowshoe in the winter, but our favorite time to do this hike (and we do it several times a year) is in the fall when the leaves on the Aspens are a magnificent array of colors and the entire mountain feels like it’s caught the fire of fascinated metamorphosis as it changes from green to armies of individual characters dressed in red, orange, yellow, and somewhere still in between.

Stewart Falls is named for the Stewart family who originally homesteaded this little slice of heaven and started the first ski lift at what is now Sundance Mountain Resort.

Whatever time you decide to hike to Stewart Falls, and whether you’re staying with us or not, you’re sure to love every minute of it.  We recommend stopping at the Foundry Grill at Sundance afterward and grabbing a refreshing “Mountain Cooler” for the perfect blend of Ginger, Lime, and Mint in an ice-cold soda that will burn the day’s experience into your taste bud’s memory for life!
